WORLD PREMIERE

The Ceremony is a darkly comedic and daringly honest one-woman show— expect a lot of swear words!

Jess is a mom to two young kids who is struggling to find connection and meaning in her life. She is unable to feel joy in the day-to-day moments…So she turns to DRUGS!

With Jess’s trademark sardonic wit, you will see how she overcomes suicidal ideations and learns to enjoy the present moment by stepping WAY out of her comfort zone to take psilocybin mushrooms, in a plant medicine ceremony, with a group of people she never wants to see again.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Jess Kaplan got her BFA in acting from Stella Adler Studio at NYU. She studied improv at Second City, UCB, and The Pit. She joined Howard Fine’s masterclass in LA and discovered standup. Then she found herself back in NYC and booked a role as the mistress opposite Emmy award nominee Josh Charles in a film— which she thought would launch her into SUPER stardom… spoiler alert: It didn’t.

Then she found writing. Her spec scripts got her meetings with Lorne Michael’s Broadway Video, Reece Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine, and Labron James’s SpringHill Entertainment. CBS studios and Frolic Media optioned her television show and she pitched to Netflix, Fox, and Amazon Studios— and guess what— it didn’t get picked up— so she decided to pop out some kids— and now she is ready to get back in the game with her new solo show “The Ceremony: Motherhood is a Trip.”
